Three foreigners kidnap case; Anil Chakma Gorki arrest

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has been arrested the one of the most actor Anil Chakma Gorki to kidnapping the three foreigners on 16 February 2001. He was one of the important leader of United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) during that time. With describing the incident he added that, with exchange for 55 lakhs Bangladesh currency they were free from them. He also added that to kidnapping them was not there vision that day, they actually were waiting with guerilla ambush for PCJSS members attack on them to the Khagrachari- Mahalchari road, but unfortunately while they were checking all of the public vehicles they also stopped the one mission vehicles and found the foreigners then they took them to the deep jungle.
The three foreigners were Torben Mickelson and Nils Hogard (Danish citizen), Tim Selbi (UK citizen). During that day they released the UK citizen Weston and vehicle driver for deed of reconveyance amongst others.

Beginning:
During that day the activist of UPDF and PCJSS wrap round in a conflict to the Mahalchari Bazar, while a number activist of both side become injuries and they thought that the PCJSS members will go to Rangamati and Chittagong through the ambush road for medical treatment. That's why the UPDF cadres setting up check post and raided all kinds the running vehicles this road.
Whole day passed without getting any PCJSS members and finally became very upset. These evening four foreigners were returning to the Rangamati from Mahalchari then stopped the vehicle and confined them with the leading by Rinku Chakma. After confine them they took to the Kalapahar.
Dialogue and negotiation:
The kidnapping incident made highly tension to the Awami League minister and MPs in CHT. That's why the high official authority gives the responsibility to the CHT minister Kalpa Ranjan Chakma to free them without any harm. He appointed his very close relative Arkimidies Chakma to negotiation with the kidnappers.
He was enabling to establish communication and started negotiation about release the foreigners. Primarily they demanded three crore as the deed of release. But Kalpa Ranjan Chakma denied the proposal and offer only 5/6 lakhs for release them. But the UPDF leaders denied the proposal and offered again two crore as deed of release through Arkimidies Chakma. After 20 days of kidnapping, the minister agreed to release them by one crore and all processes completed but during that time, unfortunately became stability and stopped the negotiations/ dialogue without any cause.
Internal conflict of minister and local MP Dipankar Talukder
Gorki added that everything was going on all right, particularly to release the foreigners but finally Dipankar Talukder MP create prevent and denied the functions and he could not accept easily to interfere the incident by minister Kalpa Ranjan Chakma. Because he is the local parliament member not Kalpa Ranjan Chakma. Later on he established communication with them and offered this one crore through Nikhil and Poritosh, who were very close of Dipankar Talukder. That's why finally its late again nine days to become the points and a fruitful result.
Ransom
Finally they talked and agreed to release the foreigners by one crore as ransom. Dipankar Talukder send 55 lakhs TK through his blossom colleague Poritosh and Nikhil. This money received by Sajib Chakma, one of the UPDF leader from Naniarchar. But during that time the situation is looking so aught we thought to release them without ransom, that's why we were silence whatever they consider as ransom, Gorki added. He also added that after receiving the money we decided to send the foreigners to nearest Kachkhali army camp.
A Drama:
Gorki added the authority informed them that after one hour of release the Bangladesh military force will blank fire and the rest money of ransom 45 lakhs TK they will send later on and if be possible as soon as through Nikhil and Poritosh. We have heard the fire from a far distance after releasing on one hour.
He added that Prasit Bikash Khisa looks the money to sum on the UPDF treasure and it.
He also said that they have a good communication with the Kasem chairman, one of the top culprits to kidnap businessman Jamal Uddin from Chittagong. Kasem Chairman proposed them to handover Jamaluddin but they denied during that time.
