Justice for torture, rape, land grabbing in CHT demanded

Adivasi leaders from Khagrachari hill districts of CHT demanded justices for attacks, rapes and land grabbing occurred at Saupru Karbari Para under Mahalchari Upazila on April 3 by settlers Bengalee supported by army.
They pressed their demands in a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club on 11 May. Legal Aid and Research Association General Secretary Advocate Hemanta Tripura read out the written statement. Bangladesh Adivasi Forum General Secretary Sanjeeb Drong, Khagrachari Headman Association President Shaktipada Tripura, General Secretary Sui Hla Prue Chowdhury, Hill Law Graduates Association president advicate Ashitish Chakma were present in the conference.
They alleged that Bengalee settlers in a view to grab the land own by Buddha Shishughar Anath Ashram and Buddha Bihar attacked on Adivasi People and injured 50 indigenous people and raped two indigenous women on April 3.

The indigenous leaders said around seven acres of land of that area were grabbed within a year by settler Bengalees with continuous support from the local civil administration and army.
They claimed army members hired some journalists of both print and electronic media and made them publishing fake stories about the occurrence on 3rd April in a bid to create confusion about people.
The Adivasi leaders demanded return of the lands recently grabbed from the indigenous people of Sapru Karbari Para, Joysen Karbari Para, Gamari Dhala, Nunchari, Sindhukchari, Bhuachari, Nunchari, Chempru Para Mouza, Balyachari, Lemuchari, Jugalchari, Bara Panchari with all the land grabbed in different areas of Khagrachari district.

They urged arrest and trial of the miscreants related with the attack and rape on 3rd April. They demanded immediate withdrawal false cases filed against the Adivasi peoples by the settlers from the Maischari area under Mahalchari upazila on 3rd April 2006.
Some other demands of them included, Compensation to the affected Jumma peoples by the occurrence on 3rd April, stopping torture, oppression, harassment and filling of file cases by the army, rehabilitation of the settler Bengalees outside of Chittagong Hill Tracts and stopping new migrations, withdrawal of camps of all kind law enforcers including army from CHT and calling off the Operation Uttaran, rehabilitation of Jumma refugees returned from India.

Punishment of the Deputy Commissioner of Khagrachari, Zonal Commander of army at Mahalchari Lt Colonel Shams, Sub-zone Commander of army at Bijitala, second -in-command of Panchhari, zonal army Major Nasim, Captain Salauddin of Patachhara camp, Lt Col Ferdous of Sindukchhari zone for their communal and anti-peace-treaty activity was also demanded.
They demanded amendment of the Land Commission Law 2001 following the hill tracts peace treaty and cancellation of allocation of land to Bengalee settlers that were done violating the peace treaty, Hill Tracts manual and other international laws and declarations.
